Odyssey of the Mind: March 3, 2012

Odyssey of the Mind is a problem-solving competition open to students from kindergarten through the university level. Mountain Alliance was able to help provide the snacks to the particpants competing at Watagua High School. With an emphasis on creative solutions, participants attempt to answer a variety of questions in subjects as diverse as mechanical engineering and literary interpretation. Questions are timed, and students must come up with their best answers in just eight minutes.

Team members work together at length to solve a predefined problem and present their solution to the problem at a competition. They must also generate spontaneous solutions to a problem they have not seen before.

Mountain Alliance members also learn how great it is to have a servant's heart by helping clean up after the competition.

Mountain Alliance worked together as a team and provided snacks in the concession area such as, popcorn, drinks, pizza, sandwiches, and most importantly support for all the teams who were in the competition. This awesome experience will brighten the memories for all who participated!

F.A.R.M Cafe: February 16, 2012

Mountain Alliance members join together with a new coming restaurant in our town of Boone called the F.A.R.M Cafe to help out cleaning for their grand opening in April.
Their name stands for Feed All Regardless of Means!
F.A.R.M. Cafe is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a healthy, inclusive community by providing high quality, delicious meals produced from local sources served in a restaurant where everybody eats regardless of means.

At F.A.R.M. Cafe, customers will pay what they can. Those who can pay more than the daily suggested price will be encouraged to do so, so that others who cannot afford a meal can simply eat. Those who cannot pay are asked to volunteer at the restaurant for an hour in exchange for a meal. F.A.R.M. Cafe can assist those in need because it operates almost exclusively with volunteers.

Mountain Alliance and F.A.R.M Cafe hopes you will take the time to come check out this great restaurant and the new experience that they hope other towns will adopt!
